- AI Handyman is an independent AI consulting practice for small businesses and owner-operators in the Portland metro area and Southwest Washington. We figure out where AI actually fits in your operation, set up the tools, and train your team. We work hourly with a not-to-exceed cap, no retainers required, no vendor commissions.
- Where does AI Handyman serve?
- We serve the greater Portland metro area and Southwest Washington, anywhere within about an hour's drive of Happy Valley, Oregon. That includes Portland, Beaverton, Lake Oswego, Tualatin, Tigard, Milwaukie, Oregon City, West Linn, Gresham, Vancouver, Camas, and the surrounding Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington, and Clark counties.
- How much does AI consulting cost?
- Every project is billed time-and-materials with a written not-to-exceed cap, quoted in advance based on scope. The free 30-minute consult is $0. The written paid audit is $375. Most implementation projects land in the $500 to $1,000 range. Ongoing advisory has a 4-hour monthly minimum with a 3-month commitment. Hourly rates depend on the work and are shared in your written quote before anything starts.
- What kinds of businesses do you work with?
- We work with owner-operators and small businesses that run without an IT team: 10-person gyms, solo attorneys, accountants, real estate offices, dental practices, family-run businesses, professional services. If you have between one and roughly 50 people, run on a mix of off-the-shelf software, and want someone local you can call, you're our customer.
- Do I need to know anything about AI before we start?
- No. Most clients start with a vague sense that they should be doing something with AI and no clear picture of what. The free 30-minute consult and the paid audit both exist for exactly that. We translate AI capabilities into specific work that would save you time or money in your business, ranked by impact and effort.
- Are you tied to any specific AI vendor or software?
- No. We take no commissions, no referral fees, and no kickbacks from any AI vendor or software company. If ChatGPT is the right answer, we'll set up ChatGPT. If Claude, Gemini, or a niche industry tool fits better, we'll recommend that instead. Our incentive is the work going well, not the software you buy.
- How quickly can you start?
- The free 30-minute consult can usually be booked within a week. Paid audits are typically scheduled within one to two weeks of payment. Project work starts as soon as the written quote is approved, with most projects completed inside one to three weeks. We don't take on more clients than we can support, so calendar availability does flex.
- What if AI isn't the right answer for my business?
- We tell you. Part of the job is being honest when AI is the wrong tool for what you're trying to do. We've turned down work where the better answer was a process change, a different software tool, or hiring a human. You won't get a pitch, and you won't get sold something you don't need.
