About

Nathan Spear.

I'm Nathan, founder of AI Handyman. We're a small, independent consulting practice for owner-operators and small businesses across the greater Portland metro area and Southwest Washington.

Before AI Handyman, I spent twenty years in enterprise IT, cloud infrastructure, and customer success at IBM, Lenovo, and Rackspace, working with everything from small businesses to large channel partners. Before that, I directly supported 18 to 20 Portland-area small businesses with IT setup, compliance, and the kind of ongoing technical questions that don't fit neatly into a support ticket.

Why this practice exists.

I started AI Handyman because I kept seeing the same gap. The businesses that needed AI help the most were the ones getting ignored. Big consulting firms only want enterprise contracts. Freelancers on Fiverr or Upwork are hard to vet and hard to hold accountable. There was no local, relationship-driven option for a 10-person gym, a solo attorney, or a family-run business that just wanted honest advice and someone to call.

That's what we're building.

I live and work in the Portland area. We won't oversell you on AI, push you toward tools we have a financial stake in, or disappear after the first project. Our goal is to be who you call when something breaks, when something new comes out, and when you're ready to take the next step.

  • Local: Based in Happy Valley. Available to meet in person.

  • Independent: No vendor relationships, no referral fees, no hidden incentives.

  • Honest: Time and materials billing with a not-to-exceed cap. Written quotes before every project. Cancel any time.
